Chris Sawyer review: Clean, crisp, elegant, and spicy. With a lovely crimson hue, the wine stimulates the senses with fresh aromas of rose petals, ripe red fruits, fresh-baked blueberry tart, wild herbs, espresso beans, vanilla, baking spice, ruby grapefruit rind, and forest floor. On the palate, the fruit flavors of dark cherry, raspberry, plum and pomegranate are enhanced with earthy tones of black truffle, fresh sage and sea salt, as well as expressive notes of clove, bittersweet chocolate nibs and roasted hazelnuts. As the wine develops in the glass, these lush and lively flavors are balanced with a smooth texture, silky tannins, zippy acidity, and a lingering finish that makes each sip count. Generous, complex, and endearing from start to finish.

Introduction: The fruit for our 2018 Daria Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is sourced from Lakeville vineyard, located off of the Lakeville Highway, carved by winds, with over 500 feet elevation, and the Cornerstone Vineyard located in Sonoma Coast. This location, right by the San Pablo Bay means that cooling breezes are always tempering the warm California sun; and the fog guards the vineyards from the most powerful rays for much of the growing season, which creates a unique microclimate and great wines. The Pinot Noir is crafted from the famed Dijon clones 115, 667, 777, and Martini clone, which creates a wine with a dense and elegant backbone, vivid fruit and floral aromatics.

Winemaking: The grapes were handpicked at the end of September, sorted and de-stemmed into small fermentation bins and allowed to cold soak for 3 days to help stabilize the color and enhance flavors. It was fermented with native yeast for 14days and punched down 3 times a day to increase extraction of color and phenolic compounds. Gently pressed and aged for 12 months into 100% French oak barrels with 50% new oak to preserve the delicate notes and mouthfeel. Only 2 barrels produced.

Tasting Notes: A boutique and elegant wine, our 2018 Daria Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is silky in texture and complex in flavor, with wild cherry and rose petal, fusing perfectly with an exotic undertone of licorice and coffee vanilla oak. In the glass, bright light red hues, darker to the edge, medium weight on the palate balanced with bright acidity. Long and luscious finish.
