Introduction: The Stags Leap District is the Napa Valley smallest and most acclaimed sub-appellation. Located along the Silverado Trail, just a few miles north of Napa, the Stags Leap District was named after a legendary story of a courageous stag that eluded hunters by jumping to safety on the jagged cliffs of the Vaca Mountains.
Today, this story lives on through the intensely fruit-driven 2022 Kukeri Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown in a unique mixture of rocky, iron-rich volcanic soils along the rugged eastern hillsides and gravelly riverbed soils on the western edge of the appellation. A touch of Petit Verdot balances the rich dark-fruit character of this Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon, adding vibrancy to its lush mouthfeel and a long, lingering finish supported by bright natural acidity.
Winemaking: The grapes were hand-harvested in early October, then carefully sorted, de-stemmed, and transferred into small fermentation bins, where they underwent a three-day cold soak to stabilize color and enhance aromatic and flavor development. Fermentation lasted 18 days, with three punch-downs daily, followed by an additional three days of extended maceration to deepen color and refine tannin structure.
The wine was then gently pressed and aged on fine lees for 28 months in 100% French oak barrels, with 40% new oak, to build complexity while preserving elegance, purity of fruit, and a refined mouthfeel.
Tasting Notes: Bold and beautifully colored, the 2022 Kukeri Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon opens with expressive aromas of wild berries, cassis, and cigar box. The palate reveals rich, concentrated layers of wild blackberry, dark cherry, and ripe plum, complemented by notes of fresh mountain herbs and savory spice.
These flavors unfold over a lush, velvety texture supported by firm, polished tannins and a well-integrated structure, leading to a long, persistent finish lifted by bright, lingering acidity. Its depth and balance make this Cabernet Sauvignon a natural pairing for grilled and roasted meats.
Enjoy with Family and Friends!
Cheers!
